Dear Friends of New Eve,
As we celebrate our 15th year, we welcomed a new birth, Kaliyah, into New Eve Maternity Home this month! Mom and baby are doing well. She will be joined soon by two more births before we close out this hot and humid summer.
Our mothers and six children are working hard at their jobs and various educational programs including cosmetology school and certified nursing assistant training. We continue to help them with spiritual and educational programs in our homes. Our residents know they are mothers and they want their babies to be born. For the love of their children they must overcome many obstacles. They inspire us.

We enjoyed a very successful fundraising gala this summer. Our partner for the “Evening of Enchantment” was CCAP (Congregational Coalition Action Project). The evening featured entertainment by illusionist Vic and silent and live auctions. Thank you CCAP and our sponsors and auction donors. CCAP is a local treasure in our community, and was founded in the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church building. They describe themselves as “A 100% local, faith-supported homelessness prevention group.” Sounds like New Eve. Their Director Andrea Cosans says “It’s far easier to prevent homelessness, than to fix it.” That is 100% correct, because at New Eve we are trying to do both.
Thanks also to the amazing Summer at Sacred Heart (SASH) children’s program for their large collection of supplies for New Eve and for again sponsoring two of our children to attend this summer.
We also are grateful again this year to the boys and leaders of Trail Life at Sacred Heart for keeping the lawns at our houses looking great for our mothers and children to enjoy.
As a homeowner (two homes), New Eve has the usual repair and maintenance responsibilities to keep our mothers and children safe and comfortable. This summer we are undertaking foundation repair in our basement apartment to eliminate the recent water intrusion problems and to prevent mold. The $23,000 cost is a tough one, but thanks to your prayers and generosity we can handle it and will replenish our reserves.
God has sent us many wonderful volunteer angels over the years. One of the finest is Frances Moyer. Frances has decided to step down as our volunteer coordinator after many years of service. We thank her for all her help and thank her faithful husband Tony for sharing her with us. I pray that God will send us another Frances, but I know there is not another Frances! But there are many more volunteer angels among us, and we always need them as babysitters, mentors, housemothers, handymen/women. How about you? “Eternal” benefits are included.
